PAGASA: Southwest Monsoon Stays Affecting Several Regions

WEATHER UPDATE — According to the Philippines Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA), Southwest Monsoon remains in effect in areas such as Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao. 

The forecast wind condition on the whole country will be light to moderate speed conditions directed Southwest at all times. The coastal water condition will be slight to moderate (0.6 to 2.1 meters).

Weather Today – August 18, 2023

Western Visayas, Central Visayas, Zamboanga Peninsula, Northern Mindanao, Caraga, Palawan, and Southern Leyte will be affected by cloudy skies with scattered rain showers and thunderstorms which the Southwest Monsoon causes. The impacts on the areas will be possible flooding or landslides due to moderate, at times, heavy rains. 

Batanes will have cloudy skies with scattered rain showers and thunderstorms caused by the trough of LPA, impacting areas with possible flooding or landslides due to moderate, at times, heavy rains. 



Metro Manila and the rest of the country will be partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms caused by the Southwest Monsoon and localized thunderstorms from surrounding areas. Possible flash floods or landslides during severe thunderstorms will impact the listed areas during heavy rain. Although the weather may be fair for most of the day, it may start raining during late afternoon. 

PAGASA has issued a General Flood Advisory. There are areas with 40% river capacity as there will be a slow rise in water level, but it will still be below alarm level. 

These are the listed areas where flooding may be possible during heavy rain:

  • Agusan Del Sur
  •  Surigao Del Sur
  •  Agusan Del Norte
  •  Bukidnon
  •  Misamis Oriental

Residents in the areas are advised to take precautionary measures as there is a possibility of a flood coming.
