High Prevalence of Common Allergies in the Philippines

The Philippines is on the top of Asian Countries with a high prevalence of common allergies—rhinitis and asthma. According to the International Study of Allergic and Asthma in Children (ISAAC), Filipino children aged 13-14 exhibited one of the highest incidence rates for allergic diseases. And as the medical cost of relieving allergic symptoms and asthma continue to rise, Former President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo signed and declared July 8 as the “National Allergy Day”. Allergies, what’s that?

An allergy occurs when a person reacts to substances in the environment that are harmless to most people, these substances are known as an allergen. Allergen can be anything, they find a way to enter into our body through eating or inhaling them. Three of its common allergen includes:
  • Dust
  • Pollen
  • Pet Dander
Symptoms will depend on the type of allergen. While there are various types of allergies, three common types are:
  • Food allergies
  • Drug allergies
  • Insect sting allergies
Allergy symptoms may range from mild to severe, and can sometimes be life-threatening.   Take note though: Not all allergy reactions are alike. A mild symptom as an initial reaction will not guarantee the same mild one on the next.  

Living a life with allergies is a living hell on earth!

It’s beyond difficult and annoying—a painful hindrance. Know the trigger and avoid them.

Let others know

Immediate remedies

Most importantly, listen to your Doctor.
