MANILA, PHILIPPINES — The annual event for Pride March 2023, where thousands of LGBTQ+ members and allies in the country gather to march together to create safe spaces and celebrate for the community, took place on June 24.
Two Pride events took place on Saturday, June 24, which was the Metro Manila Pride with the theme “Tayo ang Kulayaan! Samot-saring Lakas, Sama-sama sa Landas!” and the Makati Pride Festival with the theme “Love, Laban: A Celebration of the Fight for Love in All Forms and Ways in Quezon City.”
Several celebrities and famous personalities have joined the celebration for the rights of the LGBTQ+ community.
Miss Universe Philippines 2023 Michelle Dee appeared at the Quezon Memorial Circle Pride Festival. The actress, who recently came out as bisexual, said, “Sa pagpunta ko sa El Salvador, I won’t just be raising the Philippine flag. I will also be raising the LGBTQIA+ flag!”
Gabbi Garcia joined the Pride celebration with her dad. She shared in her Instagram post that her dad wanted to give her a ride to the festival and join the march. “Anddd, here we are!!! I love you, dad!! Thank you for stepping up and making a difference!!” she captioned on her Instagram post, alone with her conversation with her dad.
Megan Young has also appeared on the festival showing her support for the queer community. “I stand up for you all here tonight as an ally of the LGBTQ+ community. I am here because I believe in Love!” she stated.
Sexbomb Girls, the girl group of the queer community in the Philippines, which includes Weng, Monic, and Mhyca, gave an entertaining performance to the people who attended the march with their hit songs “Bakit Papa?” and “Sumaway Sumunod.”
Andrea Brillantes showed up by delivering a drag performance during the 2023 Pride Night. The actress has been open about her support to the community and shows that she is an ally. – WhatALife!/Zain
