The Inside Out 2 Trailer has just been released revealing new additional characters: Anxiety, Envy and Ennui with it’s release date set to June of next year.
The original movie Inside Out was released in 2015, with the sequel premiering in June of 2024. The first film focused on 11-year-old Riley and her five emotions: Joy, Sadness, Disgust, Fear, and Anger.
The film’s plot line focuses on Riley’s family moving from Minnesota to San Francisco. The film shows Riley struggling to adjust to her new environment. Due to her emotional straits, Riley risks losing her friends.
There have been reports about salary disputes with Mindy Kaling (Disgust) and Bill Hader (Anger), where the two will not return for the sequel. The two actors are replaced by Tony Hale and Liza Lapira, respectively.
Inside Out received praise from movie critics and enthusiasts in its initial release. The movie was awarded the 2016 Academy Award, winning best animated feature. The first movie shows Joy and Sadness on an adventure to help Riley settle into her new home environment and navigate the numerous emotions she’s experiencing.
Inside Out 2 was announced at Disney’s D23 Expo in 2022, with Kelsey Mann directing and Meg LeFauve writing the script. The sequel focuses on Riley and the “puberty alarm” in her head. Once the alarm in Riley’s brain sets off, construction cells destroy everything in the headquarters to pieces. The sequel intends to focus on the turmoil of emotions during puberty.
In the release of the new trailer, new emotions have been added to the roster. Anxiety and Envy have been added to the list of emotions in Riley’s brain. Anxiety will be voiced by Do Revenge star Maya Hawke. Just as Anxiety is an extension of Fear, Envy is an extension of Disgust. Inside Out fans are eager to see how these two emotions will contribute to the movie.
Among Anxiety and Envy, Ennui will also be joining the roster. Ennui is the bored emotion, and seeing the dynamic between Ennui and Joy will be interesting. Moreover, it wouldn’t be a movie about puberty without Embarrassment, which is the final addition to Riley’s roster of emotions.
