Alden Richards, Asia’s Multimedia Star, bids farewell to the stereotypical “good boy” roles as he embraces a challenging character in GMA 7’s upcoming historical action-drama series, “Pulang Araw.”

The award-winning Kapuso idol expressed immediate enthusiasm when offered one of the challenging roles in the new series by GMA 7 executives.

“Madumi, bad boy, basagulero. Ang nagustuhan ko kasi rito noong pinresent siya sa akin, ‘Madumi ka rito.’ ‘Okay po!” Alden shared in an interview.

He stated that he is ready to move away from the usual “goody-goody” and “clean-cut” roles.

“In fairness, sa mga teaser pa lang ng ‘Pulang Araw’ na tatalakay sa mga naging kaganapan sa Pilipinas noong sumiklab ang World War II, ay talagang na-curious na ang mga manonood,” the Pambansang Bae added.

In a separate interview, Alden described his role in “Pulang Araw” as one of the most challenging he has taken on since entering showbiz.

The historical action drama, set against the backdrop of World War II and the Japanese occupation in the Philippines, materializes the stories told by Alden’s grandmother.

“Ang hirap kasi nu’ng salita. Napakahirap nu’ng mga salitang binibigkas noong araw dahil hindi ‘yun ang kasalukuyang salitang ginagamit natin sa pang-araw-araw,” Alden shared, emphasizing the difficulty in pronouncing words.

He further explained, “Malalim tsaka may shortness of breath eh. Mahangin ‘yung malalim na salitang Tagalog nu’ng araw pero masarap siya gawin.”

“Pulang Araw” also stars Sanya Lopez, Barbie Forteza, and David Licauco.

Barbie and Sanya will portray the characters of Adelina and Teresita, respectively, who are bodabil stars and sisters.

Alden breathes life into the character of Eduardo, Barbie’s half-brother with American blood, while David takes on the role of a Japanese soldier.

Directed by Dominic Zapata and written by Suzette Doctolero, “Pulang Araw” is set to be one of GMA’s significant productions in the Year of the Wood Dragon.
