Davao Central 911 awarded Gawad KALASAG

DAVAO, PHILIPPINES – During the 22nd Gawad KALASAG (KAlamidad at Sakuna LAbanan, SAriling GAling ang Kaligtasan), the city’s Central 911 was inducted into the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council’s Hall of Fame.

The Special Awards for the Best Government Emergency Management Response Team Category plays a role in raising the morale of responders who work nonstop to provide efficient emergency services, according to Alfredo Baloran, the chief of the City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (CDRRMO), in an interview on Tuesday, February 27,2024.

Local government units that have demonstrated remarkable disaster risk reduction, management response, and humanitarian assistance initiatives are eligible to receive the Gawad KALASAG, the highest award available.

Davao City was the first local government unit in the Philippines to be included in the Hall of Fame, stated by Baloran, who mentioned that the city had previously won the award on multiple occasions due to its success in the past.

This is the first time that a Hall of Famer has been honored with the government emergency response services award from the National Risk Reduction and Management Council, which is considered quite significant. According to Baloran, this is a tremendous honor for Davao.

During this time, the Human Resource and Management Office, as well as the Davao City Hall Employees Association, acknowledged the efforts of the Central 911 Urban Search and Rescue Team of the CDRRMO in the recovery efforts in Barangay Masara, which was affected by a landslide in Maco, Davao de Oro.

“In recognition of your heroic service and bravery, dedication, and unwavering commitment to public service as a member of the Davao City Urban Search and Rescue (USAR) Central 911 during the six-day rescue and retrieval operations in Barangay Masara, Maco, Davao de Oro,” the certificate reads.
