MANILA, PHILIPPINES — John Regala, whose real name is John Paul Guido Boucher Scherrer, died Saturday morning. He was 55 years old.

Aster Amoyo, an entertainment columnist and talent manager, announced the news on Facebook and stated that the actor died strictly at 6:28 a.m. due to multiple complications.

Regala’s wife, Victoria Scherrer, confirmed the veteran actor’s passing. Scherrer told the Filipino broadcasting company ABS-CBN that Regala had a cardiac arrest at the New Era General Hospital in Quezon City. In addition, the actor had also suffered various health conditions, such as kidney and liver complications.

Regala had been regularly getting check-ups due to diabetes, liver cirrhosis, and severe gout. 



Regala is known for his antagonist roles in Filipino action films. The veteran actor is known for top Filipino films like Alyas Baby Face(1990), Vizconde Massacre: God, Help Us! (1993), Primitivo Ebok Ala: Kalabang Mortal ni Baby Ama(1992), and Batas Ko ay Bala(1996). Regala was labeled as one of the “Bad Boys” in Philippine television.

Recently, he starred in Zombading: Patayin sa Shokot si Remington, Manila Kingpin: The Asiong Salonga Story, and The Road. The veteran actor was awarded Best Supporting Actor in the 2011 Metro Film Festival specifically for his performance in the crime film The Asiong Salonga Story.

Regala appeared last in the 2016 popular TV series Ang Probinsyano, along with co-actor Coco Martin, who plays the main character.

Moreover, various local actors and entertainers like Gary Ejercito, Randy Santiago, Allen Dizon, and Ricky Davao expressed condolences on Amoyo’s post about the veteran actor’s demise.



Meanwhile, Filipina actress Nadia Montenegro expressed her grief after reposting the news on her Instagram stories as she bid her last farewell to Regala.

“Rest in peace John, tapos na ang hirap mo(there’s no more suffering)”, she wrote in her caption.
