PAGASA: Super Typhoon Betty Now Classified as Severe Typhoon

WEATHER UPDATE  — According to the Philippines Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA), as of 5:00 AM today, Tropical Storm Betty is 505 km Northeast of Itbayat Batanes with a max wind of 110 km/h and gust of 135 km/h. The storm is moving Northward at 15 km/h. The super typhoon is now classified as a severe typhoon.

Coastal conditions will be moderate to rough as the southwest monsoon will be affecting N northern Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao. The coastal waters will range from 2.5 to 5.0 meters and the wind speed will be moderate to high. Cautionary actions are advised as it may cause danger to people. 

Weather Today – June 1, 2023

For today’s weather forecast, Occidental Mindoro, Antique, and Northern Palawan including Cuyo, Calamian, and Kalayaan Islands will be expected to experience monsoon rains which is caused by the southwest monsoon which may impact the areas with floods and landslides due to the rain. 

Mindanao will also be affected by the southwest monsoon causing cloudy skies with rain showers and thunderstorms.



Metro Manila and the rest of Luzon and Visayas will be experiencing rain showers and thunderstorms caused by the southwest monsoon and severe typhoon Betty. Areas will have impacts of floods and landslides due to rain as well. 

PAGASA has issued Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal No.1 to:

  • Luzon
    • Batanes
  • Visayas
  • Mindanao

Heavy Rainfall Warning was also issued to following areas:

  • Occidental Mindoro
  • Ilocos Sur
  • La Union
  • Benguet
  • Abra
  • Antique
  • Northern portion of Palawan (Cuyo and Calamian)
