CAGAYAN DE ORO, PHILIPPINES — Today, January 9, 2023, thousands celebrated the Feast of the Black Nazarene in CDO.
The celebrations began on Sunday, January 8, at 9 PM when the Image of the Black Nazarene was transferred to the St. Augustine Cathedral Metropolitan Cathedral from the Jesus Nazareno Church.
Then from 10 PM to 4 AM, the vigil began, with devotees visiting the cathedral, paying their respects to the miraculous Black Nazarene. Some also lit candles to accompany their prayers.
The following day, beginning at 4 AM, the traditional Traslacion, or the holy procession of the Image of the Black Nazarene, began. The route starts from the Metropolitan Cathedral to Fernandez Street to A. Velez Street, then right turn to Claro M. Recto Avenue, then to its final destination – Jesus Nazareno Church.
Thousands led by the members of the churche joined the procession. Police members also surrounded the Black Nazarene being carried by select devotees.
Despite the light rainfall, the event went by smoothly. Rescue personnel were also on standby to assist devotees in case of injuries and other medical emergencies that usually occur during the procession.
The celebration of the Feast of the Black Nazarene continues with multiple mass scheduled at the Jesus Nazareno Church.
NTC orders temporary loss of signal during the Black Nazarene procession
On Sunday, telecommunication companies, following the order of the National Telecommunications Commission (NTC), informed subscribers of signal loss for the Black Nazarene procession scheduled the next day, January 9.
Select parts of Cagayan de Oro had no signal from 4 AM, the start of the procession. The signal was restored at around 12 NN when celebrations had subsided. – WhatALife!
