pmma enrollees encouraged in cdo

CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY, PHILIPPINES — The PMMA (Philippine Merchant Marine Academy) in Zambales is now accepting applications for the Annual Entrance Examination for AY 2023-2024; CDO enrollees encouraged by Congressman Rufus Rodriguez.

PMMA Superintendent Joel Abutal said to CDO Representative Rufus Rodriguez that they are looking for more applicants from CDO; once accepted, students will avail of free tuition, waived fees, free uniforms, and board and lodging.

PMMA offers a Bachelor of Science in Marine Engineering to study marine propulsion systems and the operation of the ship and a Bachelor of Science in Marine Transportation to become a licensed deck officer (mate) of the ship.

Meanwhile, Rodriguez pledged to provide an allowance of Php 10,000 yearly and will also shoulder the roundtrip plane fare of successful applicants from CDO. He expresses his strong support for the aspirations of CDO’s future cadets, and he commits to helping them out in their journey toward achieving their dreams.

One can note that he is the author of RA 11782, which mandates the establishment of a PMMA Campus in CDO. The officials are currently in the process of finding a prime location where the campus will be constructed.

The Republic Act was first the Senate Bill 7693, establishing a Campus of the PMMA; on May 29, 2022, it lapsed into law, RA 11782, without then-President Duterte’s signature.

The CDO Campus aims to be a Technical and Vocational School and Training Center, offering TechVoc and STCW courses, allowing students to be equipped as per international conventions with the necessary skills and certifications to make them ready for onboarding a ship. In addition, the campus will also be a preparatory school for students wanting to pursue BS Degrees in the Main Campus at San Narciso, Zambales. – WhatALife!/Zed
