PAGASA: Southwesterly Winds Prevail Over Shipping Ports

WEATHER UPDATE — According to the Philippines Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA), Southwest Monsoon will prevail over the country, causing rain showers and thunderstorms. 

Tropical Storm Lan was located outside of PAR as of 3:00 AM today. It was located 2,370 KM East Northeast of Extreme Northern Luzon with a maximum sustained wind speed of 110 km/h near the center of the gustiness up to 135 km/h. The storm is moving Westward at 15 km/h.

Weather Today – August 10, 2023

Western Visayas, Zamboanga Peninsula, BARMM, SOCCSKSARGEN, Occidental Mindoro, Northern portion of Palawan, and Lanao del Norte will have cloudy skies with scattered rain showers and thunderstorms caused by Southwest monsoon with possible flooding or landslides due to moderate to heavy rains. 

Metro Manila and the rest of the Philippines will experience mostly fair weather, however, some areas will have partly cloudy skies with isolated rain showers and thunderstorms which is caused by the Southwest monsoon and localized thunderstorms. There may be the possibility of flash floods or landslides during severe thunderstorms. The weather for the majority of the Philippines will be sunny and hot. 



PAGASA shows on the weather chart that there will be heavy thunderstorms in Visayas and Mindanao as there is a heavy lightning cloud hovering east of Visayas. Rain will be heavy, and the possibility of flooding may be certain in some areas. 

PAGASA has also issued that moderate to strong South Westerly to Westerly surface wind flow will prevail over the shipping area North of Scarborough, Mindoro, Central Philippines, making light to moderate southwesterlies over the rest of the forecast area. – WhatALife!/Zain
