MANILA, PHILIPPINES – A slideshow of photos was posted on TikTok from the man allegedly behind the 299-peso engagement ring, breaking his silence and posting his statement on the platform.
The screenshots contain a statement from the man allegedly on the other end of the topic that trended over the weekend among Pinoy social media users. Numerous Filipinos have been voicing their opinions on the latest trending topic on social media regarding the woman voicing out her concerns online about her boyfriend’s proposal with a 299-peso engagement ring.
Filipinos have been debating about it online since it surfaced over the weekend. Other women who have shared similar experiences also shared their sentiments about the topic.

The man who claims that he was behind the 299 engagement ring proposal voiced out his sentiments to the Filipino netizens. He stated that he is a breadwinner and shares that he still has numerous financial responsibilities, which is why he was only able to afford a ring worth PHP 299. He also emphasized that it was only the engagement ring, not the wedding ring itself.
A portion of his statement said, “Tbh meron naman ako(ng) pambili ng ring na nag re-range ng 4 digits pero due to the struggles and responsibilities ko sa life yung ring no yon na muna ang napili ko for her and para sakin yun ang promise ring ko sa kanya na siya yung papakasalan ko at makakasama ko for the rest of my life.”

However, discrepancies in the statement were also found. The section stating that he only saw it as a promise ring, where he promised that he would marry her someday. Pinoy netizens found it hard to believe that the post really came from the man on the other end of the issue. With some Redditors saying that it might just be someone looking to gain clout from the issue even if the post was made anonymously.
