Commissioned vs Non-commissioned Officers in the PNP

The Philippine National Police (PNP) is the primary law enforcement agency in the country, responsible for maintaining peace and order, preventing crime, and protecting the people and their property. As a vital institution of the Philippine government, the PNP ensures that law and order are upheld and that citizens are safe.

Commissioned officers are those who have obtained a degree from a recognized institution and have successfully passed the PNP entrance examination. They hold higher ranks, such as Police Inspector, Superintendent, Chief Superintendent, and Director, and have the authority to command and manage police operations.

On the other hand, non-commissioned officers in the PNP are those who have not obtained a degree but have completed the required training and have passed the PNP entrance examination. They hold lower ranks, such as Police Officer 1, Police Officer 2, Senior Police Officer, and Police Non-Commissioned Officer, and primarily perform operational and support duties under the supervision of commissioned officers as Patrolman/Patrolwoman up to the rank of Police Executive Master Sergeant
