Pubity announced in an Instagram post that Black Jack will participate in the movie adaptation of Minecraft, the popular block-building adventure game.

In the upcoming adventure film, Black will be partnered with Jason Mamoa, renowned for his portrayal of Aquaman. Black is anticipated to take on the role of Steve in this movie.

Joining the cast of Minecraft are Emma Myers, Danielle Brooks, and Sebastian Eugene Hansen. The sandbox game from Mojang holds the title of the bestselling video game ever, boasting 300 million copies sold and nearly 140 million monthly active players.

The Minecraft movie is a collaborative effort involving Vertigo, Legendary (as a co-financier), Mojang/Microsoft, and Momoa’s On the Roam. Directed by Jared Hess, the film has a production team that comprises producers Roy Lee, Jon Berg, Mary Parent, Cale Boyter, Momoa, Torfi Frans Olafsson, Vu Bui, and the late Jill Messick. Additionally, executive producers include Todd Hallowell, Kayleen Walters, Brian Mendoza, and Jonathan Spaihts.

After voicing Bowser in The Super Mario Bros. Movie, Black gained recognition for the character’s memorable song “Peaches.” The animated film quickly became the most successful video-game movie of all time, amassing a staggering $1.36 billion in global box office earnings just one week after its April 2023 release.

Black is set to reprise his role as Po in the fourth installment of the popular Kung-Fu Panda series, due for release on March 8. He’s also starring in Lionsgate’s adaptation of the video game Borderlands, which will be released in theaters on August 9. In addition, Black and Kyle Gass will tour Europe this spring with Tenacious D for their “Tenacious D and the Spicy Meatball Tour.”

In 2015, Tenacious D won a Grammy for their cover of “The Last in Line,” which was awarded for the best heavy metal performance. Black’s acting portfolio includes Sony’s highly successful Jumanji franchise, which has grossed $1.796 billion, and Peter Jackson’s King Kong, which earned $556 million worldwide.
