SSS ID FAQs

Why Is It Necessary To Apply For An SSS ID?

SSS is a form of personal insurance to alleviate the consequences of being unemployed. Since unemployed people are a burden not only to the people that feed them but the nation as a whole, the government incentivises people who sacrifice a bit of their salary for their future using the Social Security System.

Not only that, applying for SSS is mandated by the Philippine law under Republic Act No. 8282, otherwise known as the Social Security Act of 1997, where the declaration of policy states that:

“It is the policy of the State to establish, develop, promote and perfect a sound and viable tax-exempt social security system suitable to the needs of the people throughout the Philippines which shall promote social justice and provide meaningful protection to members and their beneficiaries against the hazards of disability, sickness, maternity, old-age, death, and other contingencies resulting in loss of income or financial burden. Towards this end, the State shall endeavor to extend social security protection to workers and their beneficiaries.”

Since it is mandated to have all private companies comply with this law, all employees working in the private sector will need to apply for an SSS ID.
