MANILA, PHILIPPINES — World of Wonder, an American company, announced on Sunday, May 15, that the drag reality show ‘Drag Race Philippines’ is premiering this August 17, 2022.
According to Entertainment Weekly, All Star 6 and RuPaul’s Drag Race Season 4 contestant Jiggly Caliente will serve as one of the judges in the most-awaited show and expressed their overjoyed excitement for joining the panel.
Wow Present Plus, a streaming service featuring the show, took to Twitter to share the show’s Season 4 trailer capturing Jiggly, also known as Bianca Castro.
The trailer also shows that the ‘Untucked’ series, which will air new episodes, will have its release alongside the competition show. The ‘Untucked’ section features drag contestants’ unseen footage and behind-the-scenes drama.
In August 2021, RuPaul revealed that ‘Drag Race Philippines’ was opening its casting auditions. However, there was no release of detailed information about the reality show, including its contestants and hosts.
RuPaul’s Drag Race, first aired in 2009, was created by RuPaul Andre Charles, including World of Wonder. The franchise got its license in other countries, including Thailand, Holland, the United Kingdom, and Spain.
The most-anticipated show marks the second franchise in Asia after the recent “Drag Race Thailand.”
Other Filipino drag queens aside from Jiggly, who had their talents featured in the Emmy Award-winning show, include Ongina, Manila Luzon, Phi Phi O’Hara, Vivienne Pinay, and Rock M. Sakura in the US franchise.
Filipino-American drag queen Karl Philip Michael Westerberg, well-known as Manila Luzon, one of the original series’ famous queens, is set to host another drag queen reality competition called ‘Drag Den Philippines.’
Last July 2021, the upcoming show, a Philippines-based Cornerstone Entertainment production, started its casting. However, there is still no announcement regarding its premiere date. – WhatALife!
