PAGASA: Shear line, Amihan, LPA bring weather disturbance

weather update october 26 2022

WEATHER UPDATE — According to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa), three weather systems are affecting the country. Namely, the Northeast Monsoon or Hanging Amihan, the shear line, and the LPA (Low-Pressure Area).

Tatlong weather system ang pinaka-nakakaapekto sa bansa. Meron tayong Northeast Monsoon or Hanging Amihan dito sa hilagang bahagi ng Luzon, itong shear line dito sa Timog Luzon, at LPA (Low-Pressure Area) east of Eastern Visayas,” said PAGASA Weather Forecaster Obet Badrina.

(Three weather system are affecting the country. There is the Northeast Monsoon or Hanging Amihan in the northern part of Luzon, the shear line in the southern portion of Luzon, and the LPA (Low-Pressure Area) east of Eastern Visayas.)

The shear line brought cloudy skies to the Southern Luzon area and rains in a large portion of Central Luzon, including Metro Manila.

Today, the weather has improved in large parts of Northern and Central Luzon, including Metro Manila. However, the effects of the shear line can be felt more in Southern Luzon, particularly in the Quezon Province, Bicol region, and the area of Mimaropa.

Meanwhile, PAGASA continues to monitor the LPA. Based on the latest data, the LPA can possibly develop into a TD (Tropical Depression) today. In case it becomes a TD, it will be given the name “PAENG.”

The LPA is now located 1,010 km East of Eastern Visayas (11.1°N, 135.0°E).

After becoming a TD, it has a possibility to track toward the eastern section of Luzon and ‘recurve.’ Recurvature means that it is possible to not hit the country, but landfalling in Luzon or Visayas is not ruled out.

WEATHER TODAY – October 26, 2022

For today’s weather forecast, Palawan, Visayas, and Mindanao will experience cloudy skies with scattered rain showers and thunderstorms due to the LPA.

Meanwhile, Metro Manila, CALABARZON, Bicol Region, Mindoro Provinces, Marinduque, and Romblon will experience cloudy skies with scattered rain showers and thunderstorms due to the shear line.

The Cordillera Administrative Region, Cagayan Valley, and Aurora will experience cloudy skies with rains due to the Amihan or Northeast Monsoon.

Ilocos Region and the rest of Central Luzon will experience partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated light rains due to the Amihan or Northeast Monsoon.
