PAGASA: LPA now 280 km southeast of Davao City

WEATHER UPDATE — According to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA), the Low-Pressure Area (LPA) being monitored near Mindanao is now 280 km southeast of Davao City. It has a slight chance of becoming a tropical cyclone and may disperse in the next few days.

The LPA being monitored inside the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) continues to bring cloudy skies and rain over Visayas, Mindanao, Bicol Region, and Palawan. Moderate to, at times, heavy rains is also expected in Eastern Visayas, Caraga, and Davao.

The weather agency reports the LPA has a slight chance of becoming a tropical cyclone and may even disperse in the following days.

No other LPA is spotted near the PAR.



Meanwhile, the Northeast Monsoon or Amihan continues to bring light rains over northern Luzon, including Cagayan Valley, Ilocos Norte, and Apayao.

WEATHER TODAY – JANUARY 24, 2023

For today’s weather forecast, Palawan and Bicol Region may expect cloudy skies and high chances of rain due to the trough or extension of the LPA. Meanwhile, the Northeast Monsoon or Amihan brings light rains to Ilocos Norte, Apayao, and parts of Cagayan Valley.

The rest of Luzon, including Metro Manila, may expect fair weather with chances of isolated rain showers.

Due to the Low-Pressure Area (LPA), areas in Visayas are forecast to experience colder weather conditions and moderate to, at times, heavy rains. Temperatures range from 24 degrees Celsius to 29 degrees Celsius.



Caraga and Davao Region may experience cloudy skies and high chances of rain due to the nearing LPA. Temperatures range from 24 degrees Celsius to 33 degrees Celsius.

PAGASA continues to issue a gale warning to areas in Luzon and Eastern Visayas. Waves are expected to reach up to 4.5 meters. See the full list below:

  • Northern coast of Ilocos Norte
  • Aurora
  • Northern Quezon including northern and eastern coasts of Polillo Islands

  • Eastern coast of Albay
  • Eastern coast of Sorsogon
  • Kalayaan Islands
