The trailer for Elvis is here, and yes, Austin Robert Butler, known for his role as James “Wilke” Wilkerson in the television series Switched at Birth, is singing in the Presley role. Watch the trailer below:

The first trailer for “Elvis” was released on Thursday (February 17) by Warner Bros, previewing the narrative of the singer’s meteoric rise.

In the upcoming biopic by director Baz Luhrmann, the 30-year old actor Austin Butler stepped into the blue suede shoes of rock ‘n’ roll superstar Elvis Presley.

Butler is dressed as the musician, with slick black hair, sunglasses, and his iconic bedazzled white jumpsuit, in a full-length three-minute trailer. The film also features Tom Hanks as Elvis’ manager, Colonel Tom Parker, and Olivia DeJonge as Presley’s wife, Priscilla.

During a virtual press conference prior to the trailer’s premiere, where they addressed their work on the glitzy and powerful biographical musical, filmmaker Baz Luhrmann said that the film would only be released in theatres. The Warner Bros film will be divided into three parts, with Luhrmann calling the king of rock ‘n’ roll’s tale a “great canvas to explore America.”

According to the studio, the film directed by Luhrmann spans 20 critical years in Presley’s life.

“When I began the process, I set out to get my voice to be identical. That instills fear. So that got the fire burning,” Butler shared about the huge responsibility of embodying the legend.

“I feel such a responsibility to Elvis and to [ex-wife] Priscilla and [daughter] Lisa Marie, and all the people around the world who love him so much,” he continued.
