SIM CARD REGISTRATION UPDATE — The National Telecommunications Commission (NTC) reports that over 46 million SIM cards, or 27.48 percent, have been registered as of March 16, 2023.
On the official SIM Registration Update page of NTC, 46,430,584 SIM cards, or 27.48 percent of the 168 million subscribers, have been registered as of 11:59 pm on March 16, 2023.
Of the 30 million total, 23.7 million are SMART subscribers (34.95 percent of its 67 million total users), 19.1 million are Globe subscribers (21.83 percent of its 87 million total users), and 3.4 million are DITO subscribers (26.59 percent of its 13 million total users).
DICT eyes longer SIM card registration
Due to the low number of registered SIM cards, the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) said it is considering extending the deadline for SIM registration which was set on April 26, 2023.
“SIM Registration deadline is still on April 26, 2023, which means we still have 51 days,” DICT Undersecretary and spokesperson Anna Mae Lamentillo said in a statement.
“We are encouraging subscribers and end-users of our local PTEs to register as the deadline is fast approaching. To avoid user traffic and to ensure a hassle free process, registering as soon as possible is a must,” she added.
