Senator Robinhood “Robin” Padilla has formally apologized to Senate officials for an incident involving his wife, actress Mariel Padilla, receiving an intravenous treatment inside his Senate office.

The controversy arose when Mariel posted a photo on social media last week, drawing criticism for what appeared to be a breach of security protocols at the Senate.

In a letter addressed to Senate sergeant-at-arms retired Lt. Gen. Roberto T. Ancan, Senator Padilla expressed regret for the incident that took place on February 19, 2024.

He clarified that he never intended to disregard the existing security regulations of the Senate or show disrespect to the institution.

“This letter conveys my apology for the incident that happened on the 19th of February, 2024, regarding the administration of Vitamin C Intravenous Drip to my spouse within my office premises here at the Senate,” stated Sen. Padilla in his letter.

“I would never think of violating the Senate’s security protocols, much less disrespecting our institution. Rest assured, this will not happen again,” he added.

Senator Padilla also sent a separate letter to Dr. Renato DG Sison, director of the Senate’s Medical and Dental Bureau, emphasizing that his wife had no intention of disregarding the bureau’s policies.

“I would like to stress that my spouse had no intention of disregarding the existing policies of the Medical Bureau,” wrote Senator Padilla in his letter to Dr. Sison.

The senator initially downplayed the incident, referring to it as a “political issue” in a text message to reporters last Friday.

He mentioned that if anyone perceived something negative in the photograph, he apologized, reiterating that there was no intention of disrespect and his wife’s goal was to promote good looks and good health.

Mariel Padilla had already issued an apology to the Senate for the controversial IV drip incident, and now, with Senator Robin Padilla’s formal apology, it is hoped that the matter will be resolved amicably.
