WEATHER UPDATE – According to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA), Shear Line affects the eastern section of Southern Luzon, Northeast Monsoon affects Northern and Central Luzon.

WEATHER UPDATE TODAY – January 9, 2024

PAGASA states that the eastern section of Southern Luzon will be affected by the Shear Line, while Northern and Central Luzon will be affected by the Northeast Monsoon.

Cagayan Valley will encounter cloudy skies with light rains caused by Northeast Monsoon with no expected significant impact.

Bicol Region, Quezon, Aurora, Caraga, Davao Region, Bukidnon, Misamis Oriental, and Camiguin will experience cloudy skies with scattered rain showers and thunderstorms due to the Shear Line / Easterlies. The moderate to occasionally heavy rainfall could potentially lead to flash floods or landslides.

Ilocos Region, Cordillera Administrative Region, and the rest of Central Luzon will experience partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated light rain due to the Northeast Monsoon. These conditions are not expected to cause significant disruption.

Metro Manila and the rest of the country can anticipate partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms due to Easterlies or Localized Thunderstorms. Severe thunderstorms may lead to flash floods or landslides.

Based on PAGASA’s Wind and Coastal Water forecast:

  • The eastern section of the country will experience moderate to strong east winds, leading to moderate to rough coastal waters (1.2 to 3.0 meters).
  • The rest of the country will encounter light to moderate east to northeast winds, causing slight to moderate coastal water conditions (0.6 to 2.5 meters).

The Northeast Monsoon and Easterlies create varied weather conditions across the country, ranging from rain showers and thunderstorms to cloudy skies.

These patterns can result in flash floods or landslides, and impact coastal areas with varying wind strengths.

Residents are advised to stay informed with weather updates, take necessary precautions, monitor their surroundings, and be prepared for potential disasters.
