Olivarez aims for back to back wins in Tennis

Eric Jed Olivarez aims for back-to-back wins on the men’s singles crown during the Dagitab Festival National Open in Naga City court on December 15.

Following an impressive showing in the recent Rep. Edwin Olivarez Cup final, the 25-year-old top player was oozing with confidence. However, he expects a more challenging contest in the Group A, P180,000 tournament sponsored by Mayor Val Chiong. The victor of this competition stands to earn P60,000 along with a trophy.

Johnny Arcilla, determined to display his skills following a break forced by injury, joins the competition as the second player. The seasoned player is placed in the latter portion of the 64-player draw.

However, aiming to disrupt a possible title showdown between Olivarez and Arcilla in this highly-ranked tournament, which also offers UTP (Unified Tennis Philippines) and UTR (Universal Tennis) points, are competitors Vicente Anasta, Josshua Kinaadman, Eric Tangub, Jude Ceniza, Noel Salupado, and Aslan Carbonilla.

Olivarez has recently secured the doubles title alongside Nilo Ledama. He is now aiming for a dual triumph in the tournament sponsored by Dunlop. The competition includes Jan Seno, Noel Damian, Francisco Santos, Brice Baisa, John Accion, Chat Conta, Marc Suson, and John Alejandre.

In the men’s doubles category, a total prize pool of P150,000 is at stake, with the victors set to receive P50,000 along with ranking points.

The week-long event will feature various competitions as part of the extended talent search organized by Palawan Pawnshop president/CEO Bobby Castro. These include the juniors’ singles and doubles for both boys and girls and the Legends categories. The Legends categories encompass men’s singles in their 35s and 45s, men’s doubles in their 40s and 50s, and classified categories.
