Miss Iloilo 2024, Alexie Brooks, is not just another beauty queen. She’s breaking stereotypes and shattering norms.

Alexie, a former track and field MVP from the National University, has always been a trailblazer. Her journey to the crown of Miss Iloilo has been marked by her exceptional achievements, both on and off the field.

But it’s her openness about her sexuality that has truly set her apart. In a recent interview, Alexie bravely discussed her identity, proudly labeling herself “androgynous.”

“I have days that I’m very feminine. I’d wake up and I’m listening to Beyonce or Rihanna, and then I have days that I feel more masculine. But Alexie is Alexie regardless of, you know, what she feels like wearing on that day,” she stated.

For Alexie, there’s no need to conform to societal labels or expectations. She embraces her true self regardless of the norms.

“There are those days, or there are times that you feel more masculine, and there are times you feel more feminine,” Alexie shared.

She continued, “You know, we live in a society where people would label you, that if you’re gay, you just be gay. If you’re lesbian, then be a man.”

And she hopes that her openness will inspire others to do the same.

“I really hope that this is like an eye-opener to people, especially to the people of the country, that there’s nothing wrong with being a part or being a member of the LGBT community,” Alexie emphasized.

But Alexie’s journey to self-acceptance hasn’t been without its challenges. Raised by her grandmother, Lola Basing, Alexie was unsure how her family would react to her revelation.

“My grandma loved it,” Alexie shared. “Of course, I grew up thinking that maybe she don’t accept me for that.”

But to Alexie’s surprise, Lola Basing was nothing but supportive. “It’s okay, regardless of what you choose or who you are; I love you for who you are,” her grandmother reassured her.

Now, as Miss Iloilo 2024, Alexie is using her platform to advocate for acceptance and love. She hopes to inspire others to embrace their true selves, just as she has.

“I’m happy. This is me. I don’t think I would want to change me just because I need to please the world,” Alexie affirmed.

In a world where beauty queens are often expected to fit a specific standard, Alexie Brooks is breaking barriers and championing authenticity.
