Local absentee voting will begin on Wednesday, April 27, 2022, for those that will be on duty on election day, May 9, 2022.

Local absentee voting (LAV) has been made available to 84,357 voters, according to the Commission on Elections (Comelec), and will be available until April 29, 2022.

Local absentee voting is available to government officials and employees, members of the Armed Forces of the Philippines and Philippine National Police, and members of the media, particularly their technical and support staff, under the LAV.

A total of 93,698 military, police, government, and media workers applied for LAV for the 2022 elections, according to the Comelec.

However, according to the COMELEC Committee on Local Absentee Voting (CLAV), 84,357 of the 93,698 applicants were authorized.

9,341 people’s applications were rejected because they were either not registered or had been deactivated.

Military, police, and government officials would vote through the heads of their respective offices, according to Comelec Commissioner George Garcia.

“He will be the one to deliver to the local absentee voters their ballots, then the voters will accomplish the ballots, after that give it back to the head who will collect all outer envelopes containing the completed ballots, then transmit it back to the Election Contests Adjudication Department (ECAD),” Garcia said.

The media will vote at the local Comelec offices, in which they submitted their applications for local absentee voting.

He stated that the vote counting and canvassing will take place on May 9 at 7 PM and will be accomplished by the CLAV.

Participants in the LAV will elect a president, vice president, senators, and party-list representatives.

The local absentee voting schedule has been set for April 27 to 29, 2022, according to the Comelec.
