La Salle gains share of lead in UAAP mens volleyball

On Wednesday at SM Mall of Asia Arena, De La Salle University defeated the University of the East in the men’s volleyball tournament for UAAP Season 86.

Vince Gerard Maglinao led the Green Spikers with 13 attacks, two blocks, and an ace. Noel Michael Kampton and John Mark Ronquillo scored 13 points each, and the team finished 4-1, tied with the National University Bulldogs and the Far Eastern University Tamaraws.

With scores of 25-22, 21-25, 25-14, 23-25, and 18-16, NU easily defeated FEU to win their fourth straight game.

“Based on UE’s previous games, in the third set, they try to push themselves to win it. Somehow, there was a little control over our ball, so we didn’t deliver, but we were ready for that,” La Salle head coach Jose Roque said.

The Red Warriors fought hard in the third set, even taking a 29-28 lead after dropping the previous two games.

However, after one hour and twenty-five minutes, La Salle won thanks to three mistakes made by UE. For the Red Warriors, who had not won in five games, Joshua Pozas finished with 14 attacks and five digs.

Scheduled to play on Saturday is UST against Ateneo at 10 am, Adamson University against Far Eastern University at noon in the men’s division, UST against Ateneo at 2 p.m., and Adamson against FEU at 4 p.m. in the women’s division.
