PHNOM PENH, CAMBODIA — Gilas Pilipinas, the Philippine men’s national basketball team earns sweet revenge defeating Indonesia with an amazing comeback from an 11-point deficit ending the match with 84-76 at 32nd Southeast Asia Games (SEA) on Monday.
With this victory, the Philippines men’s national basketball team advances to the men’s 5-on-5 basketball finals at the Morodok Techo Sports Complex on May 15.
Justin Brownlee carried the match ending with 34 points, 9 rebounds, 5 assists, 3 steals, and 2 blocks, giving the Filipinos a push to play in the finals to have a rematch against Cambodia for the gold medal.
Gilas Pilipinas will be facing Cambodia at 3pm (4pm Manila time) on Tuesday to reach for the gold medal in the SEA Games.
Down by double digits during the first half, Gilas Pilipinas started a comeback in the third quarter, allowing them to even take the lead, 49-47, for a moment.
The Indonesians fought back and went on a scoring spree to reclaim the lead back to 71-64.
Indonesia was leading the game 74-70 with four minutes left in the game. Brownlee started to fire up as he scored 8 straight points back-to-back to help Gilas Pilipinas sweep the match to a 14-0 run.
Brownlee scored 15 points by the end of the fourth quarter alone, being on par with fellow PBA import Lester Prosper, who led Indonesia with 26 points and 9 rebounds.
With a great upset against Indonesia in the 31st SEA Games, the Filipinos took the gold medal that they had been aiming for.
Head coach Chot Reyes stated that they just need all players in top shape for the game against Cambodia, preparing to take more Gold for the Filipinos. – WhatALife!/Zain
