On October 16, 2023, Adhldryn Bravante, a student enrolled at the Philippine College of Criminology (PCCR), tragically passed away due to injuries sustained during a hazing incident. He was subjected to these reprehensible acts by members of a fraternity at an abandoned building located in Quezon City.

The Philippine College of Criminology suspended its classes on Tuesday in remembrance of Bravante. The institution also condemned a “dastardly act” committed against Bravante. In a separate statement on the institution’s official Facebook page, they stated: “Hazing, in any form, is an abhorrent and reprehensible practice that has no place in our society.”

According to the Quezon City Police Department (QCPD), the personnel at the Manila Police District (MPD) Station 3 were alerted to a case involving two individuals who brought in an unconscious man exhibiting multiple physical injuries. The two individuals were subsequently identified as Kyle Cordeta, aged 21, and Justine Artates, aged 20, both third-year students of criminology at PCCR.

The two suspects revealed that they were members of Tau Gamma Phi Fraternity and the hazing incident took place beside an abandoned building of a condominium, located along Calamba Street, Quezon City at around 2PM on Monday. The two men brought Bravante to the hospital after noticing he had difficulty breathing. Braventa was declared dead-on-arrival.

Artates and Cordeta were taken into police custody and subsequently transferred to the QCPD for further investigation. In light of this, the Scene of the Crime Operatives Team from the QCPD Forensics Unit conducted an inquiry at the location of the reported initiation. As part of the investigation, six bottles of water were retrieved from the area as crucial pieces of evidence.

Two other suspects involved in the PCCR hazing incident have been later identified as Lexer Manarpies and Mark Leo Andales, both 20 years old and students of the PPCR, have turned themselves in to authorities at 1:20 AM on Tuesday. All four suspects are currently within police’s custody.
