Gilas Pilipinas Youth wins 64-points over Syria in Fiba Asia U18 opener

MANILA, PHILIPPINES — In the 2022 Fiba Under-18 Asian Championship opening game, GILAS Pilipinas Youth defeated Syria, 112-48, on Sunday, August 21, at the Azadi Basketball Hall in Tehran.

Mason Amos led the team with 20 points and four rebounds, sparking the Philippines’ early 35-7 lead.

The 6-foot-7 big man, who recently turned 18, led the team in scoring with 26 points on 11 of 15 shooting, four rebounds, two steals, and 16 minutes, 51 seconds of action.

EJ Abadam also had a big game, with 19 points, six rebounds, and four assists, while Seven Gagate came close to a double-double with 19 points and nine rebounds in a victory that saw the young players shoot 32 percent from 3-point range and 52 percent from the field.



To win enough games to advance to the top eight, Gilas Youth will now switch its focus to Qatar in Group C action on Monday.

SYRIA 48: Kastntin 12, Khantoumani 7, Alfarouk 6, Eid 5, Essa 5, Harami 5, Mousa 3, Dabdoob 2, Ibrahim 2, Al Hajji 1, Aldassouki 0, and Tallaj 0.
