Warner Bros unveils the first-look photo for Margot Robbie’s ‘Barbie’

warner bros announces margot robbie as barbie

LAS VEGAS, USA — Warner Bros. has announced at CinemaCon on Tuesday (April 26) that an all-star live-action Barbie film, starring Margot Robbie as the titular character, will be released in July of 2023.

Margot, 31, in her first image in character as Barbie, stars in a blue and white swimsuit matched by a polka-dot headband.

The Australian Oscar-nominated actress, who landed the iconic role, is pictured in the driver’s seat of Barbie’s signature pink car as she flashes a huge smile at the camera.

She is formerly of the Gold Coast, and she also serves as a producer on the film under her company called LuckyChap Entertainment, which formed a partnership with Mattel Films and Heyday Films.

The American actor Ryan Gosling will reportedly play Ken, known as Barbie’s main romantic interest, in the upcoming film by Greta Gerwig. The movie will also star America Ferrera, Kate McKinnon, Simu Liu, Issa Rae, Michael Cera, and Will Ferrell.

The production filming began last month in the United Kingdom. However, there are no complete details about the storyline for the live-action snap, but Margot previously stated that it would surprise its viewers.

“It comes with a lot of baggage and a lot of nostalgic connections, but with that comes a lot of exciting ways to attack it,” she said.

In 2016, US comedian Amy Schumer was originally the chosen actress to be the leading star, but then she dropped out of the project due to scheduling conflicts. Although Anne Hathaway became Schumer’s replacement, Hathaway also left the project after the film’s postponement in 2017.

Margot said during her casting moments, “Playing with Barbie promotes confidence, curiosity and communication throughout a child’s journey to self-discovery.”
