MANILA, PHILIPPINES — Three Filipino films have been selected to participate in the prestigious Far East Film Festival, which will be held from April 21 to 29, 2023, in Udine, Italy.

The event, known for showcasing the best of Asian cinema, has recognized the talent and creativity of Filipino filmmakers, providing a platform for their works to be seen by international audiences.

The three Filipino films that will be featured in the festival are the horror movie ‘Deleter,’ by Mikhail Red starring Nadine Lustre; the dark fable ‘In My Mother’s Skin,’ Kenneth Dagatan’s debut feature; and ‘Where Is the Lie?’ by Quark Henares, a comedy about scams and the dangers of the web.

These films represent a diverse range of genres and styles, showcasing the rich storytelling tradition of Filipino cinema.

‘Deleter’ is a horror film about a woman who is haunted by her past and troubled by a vengeful entity. ‘In My Mother’s Skin’ is a dark fairy tale film that follows the story of Tala, a 14-year-old daughter of a textile merchant who lives in a war-worn colonial house with her sickly mother, Ligaya, and younger brother Bayani. ‘Where Is the Lie?’ is a drama film that delves into the complexities of family relationships and the consequences of deceit.

The inclusion of these Filipino films in the Udine Far East Film Festival is a significant recognition of the growing influence and impact of Filipino cinema on the international stage. It provides a platform for Filipino filmmakers to showcase their works to a wider audience and create cultural exchange opportunities between the Philippines and other countries.

The Udine Far East Film Festival has been a prominent platform for Asian cinema for over two decades, and the inclusion of Filipino films in its lineup highlights the increasing recognition and appreciation of Filipino filmmakers and their unique storytelling approach.

It is a proud moment for the Philippines as its cinema continues to make waves on the global stage, showcasing the talent, creativity, and rich storytelling tradition of Filipino filmmakers to the world. –WhatALife!/Charles
