Philippines logs over 17k new COVID-19 cases

The Department of Health (DOH) reported 17,964 new COVID-19 cases on Friday, rising the Philippines’ cumulative total to 2,179,770 cases.

In its COVID-19 bulletin, the DOH also logged 9,067 new recoveries and 168 new deaths, bringing the overall count to 1,969,401 (90.3%) and 34,899 (1.60%), respectively.

Of the total cases, 175,470 or 8 percent are active cases. The majority of the active cases experience mild symptoms, followed by asymptomatic at 7.8 percent. Those with moderate symptoms stand at 2.8 percent, while 0.6 percent of COVID-positive cases are in critical condition.

There are 4,200 ICU beds at 75 percent occupancy across the country; 20,700 isolation beds at 69 percent occupancy; 15,800 ward beds at 73 percent occupancy; and 57 percent of 3,300 ventilators are in use.
