PAGASA: Typhoon Spotted East of Mindanao

WEATHER UPDATE —  According to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA)the western sections of Southern Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao are still affected by the southwesterly wind flow. Several regions are also under thunderstorm watch as a typhoon (MAWAR) also appears on the east side of Mindanao.

Partly cloudy skies with scattered showers or thunderstorms and weak to moderate winds from the Southwest to South will prevail over said regions. Meanwhile, parts of the country will be experiencing rain on Monday while a cyclone may develop into a super cyclone that may enter the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR).

WEATHER TODAY – MAY 22, 2023

For today’s weather forecast, Palawan, Occidental Mindoro, and Antique will be experiencing cloudy skies with scattered rain showers and thunderstorms caused by the South Westerly Wind Flow. Residents are warned of flash floods or landslides.

Temperature in Palawan, Occidental Mindoro, and Antique will range from an average of 25°C to 32°C.



Other parts of Luzon will likely experience hot weather, however thunderstorms will still be expected during the afternoon until evening. Metro Manila will be experiencing rain showers with fair weather.

Temperatures in Metro Manila and the rest of the country will range from 25°C to 35°C.

PAGASA has issued a Thunderstorm advisory in the following areas in Mindanao:

  • Maguindanao del Norte 
  • Maguindanao del Sur (Cotabato City, Initao)

The weather agency also issued a Rainfall advisory in the following areas:



  • Caraga
  • Talayan
  • Guindulungan
  • Lantapan
  • Cotabato City
  • Talitay
  • Malangas
