WEATHER UPDATE TODAY – January 16, 2024

Northern Mindanao, Caraga, and Davao Region will encounter cloudy skies with scattered rain showers and thunderstorms caused by the Shear Line. Moderate to heavy rains may cause possible flash floods and landslides.

Cordillera Administrative Region, Cagayan Valley, Aurora, Quezon, and Bicol Region will experience cloudy skies with light rains due to the Northeast Monsoon. These conditions are not expected to cause significant disruption.

Metro Manila, Visayas, and the rest of Luzon can anticipate partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated light rains due to the Northeast Monsoon. These conditions are not expected to cause any impact.

The rest of Mindanao will encounter partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms caused by the Shear Line / Localized Thunderstorms. Severe landslides or flash floods are expected during thunderstorms.

Based on PAGASA’s Wind and Coastal Water forecast:

  • Northern Luzon and the eastern section of the rest of the country will experience strong northeast winds, causing rough coastal water conditions (2.8 to 4.0 meters).
  • The rest of the country will experience moderate to strong northeast winds, leading to moderate to rough coastal waters (1.2 to 3.7 meters).

The Shear Line surrounding Mindanao leads to diverse weather conditions in the said portion of the country as of today. The Northeast Monsoon is also expected to impact the rest of the country, which includes rain showers, thunderstorms, and cloudy skies.

These weather patterns can cause sudden floods or landslides and affect coastal regions with different wind intensities.

People are encouraged to stay updated on weather forecasts, take essential safety measures, keep an eye on their surroundings, and prepare for potential emergencies.
