WEATHER UPDATE – According to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA), Northeast Monsoon affects Luzon, Easterlies affect the rest of the country.

WEATHER UPDATE TODAY – January 3, 2024

PAGASA reports that Luzon is affected by the Northeast Monsoon, while the Easterlies are impacting the remainder of the country.

Zamboanga Peninsula, Northern Mindanao, Caraga, and Davao Region will see cloudy skies with intermittent rain showers and thunderstorms due to the Easterlies. These moderate to occasional heavy rains could potentially result in flash floods or landslides.

Cagayan Valley, Apayao, Aurora, and Quezon should anticipate cloudy skies with rain brought on by the Northeast Monsoon. The moderate to occasionally heavy rainfall may also trigger potential flash floods or landslides.

Metro Manila and the rest of Luzon will experience partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated light rains due to the Northeast Monsoon. However, these conditions are not anticipated to have a substantial impact.

The rest of the country should prepare for partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms caused by Easterlies / Localized Thunderstorms. Flash floods or landslides may occur during severe thunderstorms.

According to PAGASA’s Wind and Coastal Water forecast:

  • Extreme Northern Luzon will experience strong northeast winds, resulting in rough coastal waters (2.8 to 4.0 meters).
  • The rest of Luzon will encounter moderate to strong northeast winds, leading to moderate to rough coastal waters (1.2 to 3.5 meters).
  • The rest of the country will have light to moderate northeast winds, causing slight to moderate coastal waters (0.6 to 2.5 meters).

The Northeast Monsoon and Easterlies cause diverse weather conditions across the country, from rain showers and thunderstorms to cloudy skies.

These patterns can lead to flash floods or landslides and affect coastal areas with varying wind strengths. Residents should stay updated with forecasts and take precautions.
