CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY, PHILIPPINES — In an interview with the media during the Independence Day celebration at Plaza Divisoria on June 12, CDO Mayor Oscar Moreno shared his plan to teach law at Xavier University-Ateneo de Cagayan.

Moreno’s plan to teach after his term is confirmed by the Xavier Ateneo College of Law Dean Siliva Jo Sabio, who said that Moreno would be part of the faculty for the new school year in August.

“I am confirming that outgoing Mayor Oscar S Moreno is joining the faculty of the College of Law of Xavier Ateneo starting SY2022-2023. It is an honor that he will teach our students and we are proud of the great addition to Xavier Ateneo Law,” Dean Sabio said.

The mayor received his formal education in Xavier Ateneo before studying law in Manila.

Moreno also said that he would practice law again and may offer consultancy services after his term ends.

He was a corporate lawyer before rising to national prominence when he served as one of the House prosecutors during the now-aborted impeachment trial of former president Estrada.

In May, Moreno lost the gubernatorial race in Misamis Oriental to Gingoog City Vice Mayor Peter Unabia. This breaks his 24 years of public service as a congressman (1988 to 2004), governor (2004 to 2013), and mayor (2013 to present).

During Moreno’s time as the mayor, many hospitals and schools were constructed all over the city. He also faced the challenge of the first two years of the COVID-19 pandemic.

On June 30, Moreno will hand over the leadership of CDO’s local government unit to 1st District Representative Rolando “Klarex” Uy, his long-term political ally.

Last June 26, 2022, Uy took his oath of office at the recently renovated City Amphitheater in Plaza Divisoria.

In a speech, he admitted that “what Moreno did to Cagayan de Oro is a tough act to follow.”

He then outlined his own plans for the city, including tax reliefs for the business sector which was hit hard by the pandemic and the rising fuel prices. – WhatALife!
