Nine new cases, three recoveries in Cagayan de Oro on Thursday

City Health Officials announced nine new positive cases for coronavirus disease (COVID-19) in Cagayan de Oro on Thursday, August 27.

In today’s press briefing, City Health Officer Dr. Lorraine Nery reported nine new COVID-19 confirmed cases, of which three are locally stranded individuals (LSIs), four are returning overseas Filipino (ROFs) workers, one local, and one local Authorized Persons Outside Residence (APOR).

The total cumulative cases for COVID-19 in the city is 271.

Out of the cumulative total, 93 or 34 percent are active cases, four currently admitted at Northern Mindanao Medical Center (NMMC), 16 outpatients staying at the Temporary Treatment and Monitoring Facility (TTMF), and 73 cases under the ROF/LSI category.



Dr. Nery also announced three new recoveries, bringing the total recovery count to 169 (62.36%), while deaths remain at nine (3.3%).

Of the 271 cumulative total, 215 are under the LSI/ROF category, constituting 79.33 percent, with 73 active cases and 142 recovered. Meanwhile, local cases rise to 56 including the two additional cases, bringing the total percentage to 20.66 percent, with 16 active cases, nine deaths, and 27 recoveries.

City Epidemiologist Dr. Joselito Retuya, on the other hand, reported the latest COVID-19 status in the city, starting with the repeat swab results of patients from the TTMF.

  • 198th Case: 13-year-old female, LSI from Nazareth; 2nd swab test
  • 199th Case: 8-year-old female, LSI from Patag; 2nd swab test
  • 201st Case: 38-year-old female, ROF from Mambuaya; 2nd swab test
  • 202nd Case: 31-year-old female, ROF from Cugman; 2nd swab test
  • 203rd Case: 35-year-old female, LSI from Agusan; 2nd swab test
  • 204th Case: 44-year-old male, ROF from Lumbia; 2nd swab test
  • 205th Case: 21-year-old male, LSI from Agusan; 2nd swab test
  • 206th Case: 29-year-old female, ROF from Tablon; 2nd swab test
  • Non-CDO Case: 40-year-old male APOR from Antipolo, Rizal; 2nd swab test
  • Non-CDO Case: 2-yeard-old male, LSI from Lapu-Lapu, Cebu City; 2nd swab test

  • Arrived in Cagayan de Oro via plane on August 20
  • Staying at the city isolation unit
  • Swabbed on August 25; result came out positive on August 26
  • Identified one direct contact
  • Experienced mild symptoms; no known comorbidity
  • Contact tracing is ongoing

264th Case: 21-year-old male, LSI from Cebu City

  • A resident of Barangay Taglimao
  • Arrived in Cagayan de Oro port via sea travel on August 20

  • Experienced mild symptoms; no known comorbidity
  • Contact tracing is ongoing

265th Case: A less than a year old male, LSI from Bohol

  • A resident of Barangay Bayabas
  • Arrived in Cagayan de Oro via sea travel on August 20

  • Swabbed on August 25; result came out positive on August 26
  • Identified three close family contact; all staying in CIU
  • Asymptomatic; no known comorbidity

266th Case: 31-year-old female, ROF from the Middle East

  • A resident of Barangay Lapasan
  • Arrived in Clark Airport on August 12; swabbed upon arrival
  • Stayed in a hotel  in Clarke while waiting for result; tested negative
  • Arrived in NAIA via bus on August 18
  • Arrived in Cagayana de Oro via plane on August 19
  • Staying at CIU
  • Swabbed on August 24; result came out positive on August 26
  • Identified one close family contact
  • Asymptomatic; no known comorbidity
  • Contact tracing is ongoing

267th Case: 27-year-old female, ROF from the Middle East

  • A resident of Barangay Macabalan
  • First swab test on June 26 in the Middle East
  • Arrived in NAIA on August 12; swabbed upon arrival
  • Stayed in a hotel in Manila while waiting for result; tested negative
  • Arrived in Cagayan de Oro via plane on August 17
  • Stayed in OWWA CIU with cohort
  • Transferred, staying at CIU
  • Swabbed on August 25; result came out positive on August 26
  • Identified one direct contact (OWWA cohort)
  • Asymptomatic; no known comorbidity
  • Contact tracing is ongoing
  • For transfer to TTMF

268th Case: 30-year-old male, LSI from Cebu

  • A resident of Barangay Nazareth
  • Arrived in Cagayan de Oro via sea travel on August 28
  • Staying at CIU
  • Swabbed on August 24; result came out positive on August 26
  • Asymptomatic; no known comorbidity
  • Contact tracing is ongoing
  • For transfer to TTMF

269th Case: 31-year-old female, ROF

  • A resident of Barangay Lapasan
  • Arrived in NAIA on August 12; swabbed upon arrival
  • Stayed in a hotel in Manila; result came out negative on August 16
  • Arrived in Cagayan de Oro via plane on August 17
  • Stayed in OWWA CIU
  • Transferred, staying at CIU
  • Swabbed on August 25; result came out positive on August 26
  • Asymptomatic; no known comorbidity
  • Contact tracing is ongoing

270th Case: 31-year-old female, Local

  • A resident of NHA, Kauswagan
  • Employee in a health institution
  • Experienced mild symptoms on August 21; headache on August 22; and loss of sense of smell & taste on August 23
  • Swabbed at a private testing center; result came out positive on August 25
  • Identified five direct contacts; all staying at CIU
  • Staying in an isolation area in a private hospital
  • No known comorbidity
  • Contact tracing is ongoing

271st Case: 32-year-old male, Locl APOR

  • A health care worker in Barangay Cugman
  • Experienced mild symptoms on August 20
  • Swabbed on August 24; result came out positive on August 26
  • No comorbidity
  • Identified close family contacts; all staying at CIU
  • Contact tracing is ongoing
  • Staying at COVID-referal hospital in NMMC

Dr. Retuya also reported three non-CDO COVID-positive cases: a 22-year-old male LSI from Bohol, 24-year-old female LSI from Las Piñas, and 21-year-old female from Iligan City. The 21-year-old female stayed one night at Barangay Puntod, which is now being contained by the health surveillance team. Currently, she is admitted in NMMC for close monitoring.




Moreover, the City Epidemiologist also announced three new recovered cases in the city, namely:

  • 143rd Case: 46-year-old male, LSI from Bayabas; tested negative on 4th swab
  • 30-year-old male, ROF from Balulang; tested negative on 4th swab
  • 39-year-old male, ROF from Pagatpat; tested negative on 2nd swab
  • Non-CDO Case: 61-year-old female, LSI from Iligan; 2nd swab

Likewise, the active health surveillance is ongoing in five contained areas in the city, including Zone 7, Carmen; Macapaya, Camaman-an; Sta Cruz, Camaman-an; Zone 4B, Gusa; and Phase 2 Habitat, Indahag. A portion in NHA, Barangay Kauswagan (20-30 households) and a portion of Barangay Puntod are the latest focus containment announced by the health officials. See the maps below.

Meanwhile, three family close contacts of the 238th case and six family close contacts of the 242nd case all tested negative and will be discharged from CIU soon.
