Metro Rail Transit-3 Chief General Rodolfo Garcia (Ret.) passed away, the Department of Transportation (DOTr) announced on Wednesday, February 10.

In a statement, the DOTr lauded Garcia’s efforts to improve the state of the MRT-3.

“The entire DOTr family wishes to condole with the bereaved family of Gen. Garcia. Our thoughts and prayers are with you,” the department said.

“We acknowledge and highly appreciate Gen. Garcia for sharing his expertise, knowledge and leadership. We recognize his untiring effort to improve the state of the MRT-3. To Gen. Garcia, a snappy salute, Sir!” it added. “May you rest in peace.”

In late January, Transportation Secretary Arthur Tugade announced that Garcia contracted COVID-19 and had been admitted to the intensive care unit.
