Popular singer-actress Maris Racal recently opened up about her love story with veteran musician Rico Blanco, revealing a long-held admiration that blossomed into a surprising reality.
Maris Racal discussed how her family’s support of Rico Blanco’s band, Rivermaya, sparked her childhood love for him and led to their current romance in an interview on Vicki Belo’s most recent vlog.
“Actually, ‘yung gusto ko ‘yung younger version ni Rico, super crush ko talaga siya.”
She continued with a chuckle, “Hindi ko naman in-expect na siya ‘yung ibibigay ni Lord, hindi ‘yung younger version.”
The unexpected twist came through a simple tweet. Maris expressed her desire to collaborate with a musician to enhance her music, and fans, aware of her admiration for Blanco, tagged him in the post.
To her surprise, he responded, leading to a collaboration that sparked more than just musical chemistry.
Racal recalled, hinting at the developing feelings. The collaboration blossomed into a two-year-long secret relationship before they finally went public in 2021.
“I kept it for two years,” she said. “‘Yung quiet nung two years na ‘yon, it was one of the happiest years na na-experience ko kasi totoo lang siya.”
There are no pretensions. Masaya lang kami. We never dated outside here in the Philippines.” Maris said.
Their announcement met with surprise and support and came alongside “Age is just a number,” playfully addressing their 24-year age gap, where Rico Blanco is turning 50 this year and Maris Racal is turning 26.
