South Korean veteran actress Kim Min-kyung has passed away on Monday, August 16, her agency confirmed. She was 61.
DaHong Entertainment confirmed Tuesday that “Kim Min-kyung passed away yesterday” in a hospital in Seoul and her funeral will take place on Wednesday, Soompi reported.
The agency did not disclose the cause of her death.
Born in 1960, the veteran actress began her acting career in a theatrical troupe in 1979 before appearing in dozens of projects in the next 40 years. Kim won the newcomer award at the Korea Theater Festival in 1981.
Often playing the ‘long-suffering but understanding mother’ character, Kim appeared in the movies Tazza (2006), Someone Behind You (2007), and Where the Truth Lies (2009), to name a few. Meanwhile, some of her dramas include The Moon Embracing the Sun (2012), The Flower Prison (2016), Nobody Knows (2020), Eccentric! Chef Moon (2020), and more.
Prior to her death, Kim participated as one of the casts of K-dramas Mouse (2021) and A Good Supper (2021), and the movie Pipeline (2021). Two of her movies, Spiritwalker and 1974 Boston, have yet to be released.
