Cagayan de Oro nears 300 cases of coronavirus

City Health Officials announced nine new positive cases for coronavirus disease (COVID-19) in Cagayan de Oro on Monday, August 31.

In today’s press briefing, City Health Officer Dr. Lorraine Nery reported nine new COVID-19 confirmed cases, of which four are local cases and one is a returning overseas Filipino (ROF) worker, and five are locally stranded individuals (LSIs).

The total cumulative cases for COVID-19 in the city is 291.

Out of the cumulative total, 84 or 28.86 percent are active cases, six currently admitted at Northern Mindanao Medical Center (NMMC), 22 outpatients staying at the Temporary Treatment and Monitoring Facility (TTMF), and 56 cases under the ROF/LSI category.



Dr. Nery also announced 16 new recoveries, bringing the total recovery count to 196 (67.35%), while two new deaths were added, total now at 11 (3.7%).

Of the 291 cumulative total, 224 are under the LSI/ROF category, constituting 76.97 percent, with 56 active cases, 1 death (ROF), and 167 recovered. Meanwhile, local cases rise to 67 , bringing the total percentage to 23 percent, with 22 active cases, ten deaths, and 29 recoveries.

283rd Case: 21-year-old female, LSI from Manila

  • A resident of Barangay Lapasan
  • Arrived in Cagayan de Oro via plane on August 22
  • Staying at the CIU
  • Swabbed on August 27; Result came out positive on August 29
  • Asymptomatic; no comorbidity
  • For transfer to the TTMF

284th Case: 42 -year-old male, LSI from Cebu

  • A resident of Barangay Patag
  • Arrived in Cagayan de Oro port on August 22
  • Staying at the CIU
  • Swabbed on August 27; Result came out positive on August 29
  • Asymptomatic; no comorbidity
  • Contact tracing is ongoing
  • For transfer to the TTMF

285th Case: 32-year-old male, ROF from the Middle East

  • Arrived in Luzon on August 22
  • Staying at the CIU
  • Swabbed on August 27; Result came out positive on August 29
  • Asymptomatic; no comorbidity
  • For transfer to the TTMF
  • Contact tracing is ongoing

286th Case: 58-year-old female, Local case

  • A resident of a gated community in Barangay 31
  • Swabbed in a private facility on August 27; Result came out positive on August 28
  • Exhibited symptoms staring August 25; No known comorbidity
  • Close contacts were gathered and for transfer to CIU
  • Contact tracing is ongoing

287th Case: 70-year-old male, Local case

  • A resident of Barangay Bayabas
  • Experienced shortness of breath and dry cough on August 25
  • Went for a checkup at a private hospital on August 28
  • Swabbed on August 28; August 29
  • Transferred to NMMC on August 29 morning; Expired
  • 16 identified close contacts
  • With comorbidity

288th Case: 43-year-old female, Local case

  • A resident of Barangay Bugo
  • Visited a dialysis center on August 27
  • Experienced chest pain and shortness of breath
  • Swabbed in NMMC on August 27; Result came out positive on August 28
  • Identified 34 direct contacts, including the healthcare workers from the dialysis center and household

Sunday, August 30

289th Case: 26-year-old male, Local APOR

  • A healthcare worker in a private hospital
  • Exposed to 255th Case on August 22
  • Placed under strict home quarantine from August 24-30;
  • Transferred to a private hospital isolation
  • Swabbed on August 26; Result came out positive on August 30
  • Asymptomatic; no comorbidity
  • Identified 2 close family contact and co-workers

290th Case: 45 male, LSI from Manila

  • Nazareth
  • Arrived in Cagayan de Oro via plane on August 23
  • Staying at CIU
  • Swabbed on August 28; Result came out positive on August 30
  • Asymptomatic; no comorbidity
  • Contact tracing is ongoing

291st Case: 19-year-old female, LSI from Manila

  • A resident of Barangay Pagalungan
  • Arrived in Cagayan de Oro via plane on August 22
  • Staying at CIU
  • Swabbed on August 28; Result came out positive on August 30
  • Asymptomatic; no comorbidity
  • Contact tracing is ongoing

Retuya also announced three new recovered cases in the city, namely:

  1. 175th Case: 22-year-old male, LSI from Kauswagan; tested negative on 3rd swab
  2. 195th Case: 27-year-old female, LSI from Lapasan; tested negative on 2nd swab
  3. 207th Case: 51-year-old male, ROF from Kauswagan; tested negative on 2nd swab
  4. 208th Case: 23-year-old female, Local APOR from Camaman-an; tested negative on 2nd swab
  5. 214th Case: 54-year-old male, LSI from Bugo; tested negative on 2nd swab
  6. 215th Case: 35-year-old male, ROF from Carmen; tested negative on 2nd swab
  7. 220th Case: 30-year-old male, LSI from Cugman; tested negative on 2nd swab
  8. 222nd Case: 37-year-old female, ROF from Tablon; tested negative on 2nd swab
  9. 225th Case: 39-year-old male, ROF from Iponan; tested negative on 2nd swab
  10. 226th Case: 36-year-old male, ROF from Bugo; tested negative on 2nd swab
  11. 211th Case: 58-year-old female, Local APOR from a gated community in Balulang; tested negative on 2nd swab
  12. 227th Case: 26-year-old female, LSI from Carmen; tested negative on 2nd swab
  13. 216th Case: 45-year-old male, LSI from Indahag; tested negative on 2nd swab
  14. 218th Case: 41-year-old male, LSI from Lumbia; tested negative on 2nd swab
  15. 219th Case: 33-year-old male, ROF from Balulang; tested negative on 2nd swab
  16. 224th Case: 27-year-old male, LSI from Bulua; tested negative on 2nd swab

Likewise, the active health surveillance is ongoing in five contained areas in the city, including Zone 7, Brgy Carmen (to be lifted tomorrow); Macapaya, Brgy Camaman-an; Purok 4, Sta Cruz, Brgy Camaman-an; Zone 4B, Brgy Gusa; and Phase 2 Habitat, Brgy Indahag; Phase 1, NHA, Brgy Kauswagan; San Juan Tabaco, Brgy Puntod, Purok 3, Bayanihan, Brgy Gusa; Zone 2 Talidhay, Brgy Cugman; Barra-Macabalan; Zone 1 Brgy Puntod; Purok 4A, Brgy Gusa.
