CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY, PHILIPPINES — Cagayan de Oro youths won five of six categories, winning the grand prize in the Music Showcase in the SCIA (Sister Cities International Association) 2022 Young Artists and Authors Showcase.
The SCIA 2022 Young Artists and Authors Showcase is an art contest for all the youths. The competition aims to express the SCIA’s mission through music, literature, photography, and digital and classic art.
The sister cities of SCIA member cities in the US participated in the showcase back in March 2022. Cagayan de Oro’s sister city Norfolk, Virginia, USA sponsored CDO.
The SCIA Young Artists and Authors Showcase 2022 had 194 high school students from both public and private schools.
The theme for submission was “Generation Rescue: Sustainable Water for All.”
Cagayan de Oro submitted the artworks of 30 finalists, representing the contest’s six categories.
The six categories are music, poetry, photography, digital art, and classic art. Cagayan de Oro won five of six categories.

The first winner from Cagayan de Oro is Jahn Kharmelo Navales from Philippines Southfield School, the grand prize winner under the Music Showcase. He received a prize of USD 1000.
Mitzel Claire Chan from Oro Christian Grace School was the second-place winner of the Essay (Authors) Showcase. She received a prize of USD 250.
Carl Justin Tocle from Gusa Regional Science High School, third place winner under the Photography Showcase, received a prize of USD 100.
Zsarlette Alanne Cabana from Xavier University Senior High School, third place winner under the Digital Art Showcase, received a prize of USD 100.
And Zarlie Leoane Niez from Lumbia National High School, third place winner under the Classic Art Showcase, received a prize of USD 100.
The awarding ceremony of the SCIA Young Artists and Authors Showcase 2022 was held online on August 12, while the winners received the cash prizes on Friday, October 14.
With the presence of ORO-TIPC head John Asuncion and consultant Eileen San Juan, the winners took the awards in the City Mayor’s Office. – WhatALife!/Zed
