CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY, PHILIPPINES — On October 12, Mayor Rolando ‘Klarex’ Uy expressed the advocacy for a better future for the youth during the LAYFC (Leadership for Adolescent Youth-Friendly Cities) together with other local chief executives and members of the city leadership team through zoom.

The LAYFC is sponsored by The Challenge Initiative, Zuellig Family Foundation, and Commission on Population to support AYSRH (adolescent and youth sexual and reproductive health) programs to completely reduce the incidence of ‘teenage pregnancy.’

During Mayor Klarex’s presentation, he pointed out the importance of providing adequate funds to intensify the implementation of the said program.

The mayor also explained that there is the office of the CID (Community Improvement Division) which specifically focuses on the adolescent health and development program, with the support of the City Health Office and other stakeholders.

Under the AHD (adolescent health and development) program, CID conducts educational sessions such as ASRH and LPPE (learning package for parent education) in barangays and schools.

The program also includes close coordination between the Department of Education, schools, Sangguniang Kabataan, and barangay officials for the establishment of school-based and community-based teen centers.

The POPCOM X (Commission on Population Region 10) will conduct the youth development training in the POPDEV clubs while the CID also serves as the secretariat of the information and delivery network (ISDN for AHD).

During the ‘Klarex nga Servisyo sa Baryo‘ community outreach program by Mayor Klarex, among the services provided by the CID is the adolescent health and development program where there will be learning sessions such as ASRH and LPPE for grade 9 students. – WhatALife!/Zed
