As a prequel to Roald Dahl’s beloved Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, the first trailer for the highly anticipated “Wonka” has given us a look at Oscar nominee Timothée Chalamet in the lead role. Chalamet will be playing as the eccentric chocolatier created by renowned author Roald Dahl.

The film follows the adventures of young Willy Wonka, before he became the reclusive owner of the famous chocolate factory. The story follows young Willy as he travels to the chocolate capital of the world, Paris, to learn the art of chocolate making from the greatest chocolatier of all time, Monsieur Durand, played by Benedict Cumberbatch.

Meanwhile, Chalamet told Vogue magazine earlier this year that he was drawn to playing Willy Wonka for the simple reason of making a movie for younger and more optimistic viewers.

“To work on something that will have an uncynical young audience, that was just a big joy,” Chalamet said. “That’s why I was drawn to it. In a time and climate of intense political rhetoric, when there’s so much bad news all the time, this is hopefully going to be a piece of chocolate.”

Chalamet is known to play classic films such as The Dune and Call Me by Your name, where he both played the main character as Paul Atreides and Elio Perlman, respectively.

Alongside Chalamet is Rowan Atkinson, known for his hit sitcom Mr. Bean,

who also took a role in the film as the Priest. Moreover, British actor Hugh Grant will also play as Oompa-Loompa. Grant is renowned for multiple films from the past, recently in Paddington 2, where he played Phoenix Buchanan.

Other film stars included in the film are Olivia Colman, Sally Hawkins, Keegan-Michael Key, Matthew Baynton, Matt Lucas, Jim Carter, Natasha Rothwell, Simon Farnaby, Paterson Joseph, Tom Davis, Rakhee Thakrar, Justin Edwards, Colin O’Brien, Ellie White, Freya Parker, and Kobna Holdbrook-Smith.

“Wonka” is directed by Paul King, who’s also behind the two Paddington movies.

Wonka will finally be released this December 15, 2023. – WhatALife!/Val
