PAGASA: LPA may become TD, Amihan affecting Northern Luzon

weather update october 24 2022

WEATHER UPDATE — According to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa), an LPA (Low-Pressure Area) located near Visayas has high chances of becoming a Tropical Depression and may make landfall in Eastern Visayas or Northern Luzon. Meanwhile, the Amihan or Northeast Monsoon is affecting Northern Luzon.

The Low-Pressure Area is now located 345 km East of Hinatuan, Surigao del Sur (9.0°N, 133.5°E), and the LPA is embedded along the ITCZ (Intertropical Convergence Zone).

Itong Low-Pressure Area ay nakapaloob sa isang weather system, ito’y ang Intertropical Convergence Zone o ITCZ,” said PAGASA Weather Forecaster Aldczar Aurelio.

The ITCZ is affecting Palawan, Visayas, and Mindanao. Meanwhile, the LPA has a possibility to grow into a storm and may make landfall in Eastern Visayas or Northern Luzon. By the time of Amihan, or northeast monsoon, and ‘Ber Months,’ the chances of the LPA becoming a storm is high.

WEATHER TODAY – October 24, 2022

For today’s weather forecast, Visayas and Mindanao will experience cloudy skies with scattered rain showers and thunderstorms due to the ITCZ.

Batanes and Babuyan Islands will experience cloudy skies with rains due to Amihan, or northeast monsoon.

Meanwhile, the Ilocos Region, Cordillera Administrative Region, and the rest of Cagayan Valley will experience partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated light rains due to Amihan.

The rest of Luzon, including Metro Manila, will experience fair and clear weather with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms due to localized thunderstorms.
