WEATHER UPDATE — According to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA), three weather systems are affecting the Philippines, such as the Northeast Monsoon (Amihan), shear line, and trough or extension of the Low-Pressure Area (LPA).
The Northeast Monsoon is currently bringing rain to the northern part of Luzon and also reaches the islands of Palawan. Meanwhile, the shear line affects the Bicol Region, Eastern Visayas, Central Visayas, parts of CARAGA, and the Davao Region. Lastly, the trough or extension of the LPA outside the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) brings rain, mainly in the CARAGA and Davao areas.
Based on the weather agency’s latest data, the LPA spotted outside the PAR in the southern part of Mindanao still has a low chance of becoming a Typhoon because of its large and broad circulation.
PAGASA also reports isolated rain showers possible in NCR, including Metro Manila and Western Visayas.
WEATHER TODAY – DECEMBER 20, 2022
For today’s weather forecast in Luzon, rain is expected in the Quezon Province and Cagayan Valley caused by the Northeast Monsoon or Amihan. Meanwhile, rain is likely in the Bicol region due to the Shear Line.

Rain is forecasted in Central and Eastern Visayas brought by the Shear Line. On the other hand, the Northeast Monsoon brings isolated light rain showers in Western Visayas. Temperatures range from 24 degrees Celcius to 30 degrees Celcius.
The trough or extension of the LPA will bring rain showers and thunderstorms in most parts of Mindanao, including the Caraga and Davao regions. Temperatures range from 23 degrees Celcius to 30 degrees Celcius.
The weather agency continues to issue a gale warning, particularly to Northern and Central Luzon areas, due to the Amihan or Northeast Monsoon. Said areas are as follows: Batanes, Cagayan (including the Babuyan Islands), Ilocos Norte, Ilocos Sur, La Union, Pangasinan, Isabela, Zambales, Bataan, and Aurora.
