Four people were killed, and 25 others sustained injuries in a tragic road accident on the Aurora Boulevard flyover along Katipunan Avenue in Quezon City. This incident happened during rush hour on Thursday evening, December 5.
The accident in Katipunan, which involved a truck, a bus, several cars, and 16 motorcycles, occurred when the truck’s brakes failed while heading downhill.
The vehicle lost control, crashing into a car and sideswiping motorcycles, resulting in the fatalities of three men and one woman, according to Quezon City Police District (QCPD) Traffic Sector 3 Commander PCapt. Napoleon Cabigon.

Motorcycle rider James Larry, one of the injured, recounted the chaotic moments:
“Tamang andar lang ‘yung mga sasakyan nagulat na lang ako biglang ganon. Biglang may sumabog kasunod may sumasadsad na parang bakal, hihinto sana ako, binangga na rin ako.”
The truck driver fled the scene of the Katipunan flyover crash, reportedly out of fear, and was apprehended hours later on CP Garcia Avenue.
He claimed this was his first accident in his five years of driving and admitted losing control due to faulty brakes.
The scene along Katipunan Avenue was described as devastating, with vehicles severely damaged and victims sprawled on the road.
A truck helper at the site said, “Nawalan po kami ng preno tapos nasagasaan ‘yung ibang motorista. Tinulungan na lang namin ‘yung ibang nasagasaan. Tapos ‘yung drayber namin nataranta rin, umalis.”
Authorities have urged drivers to ensure their vehicles are in good condition, especially as the holiday season approaches.
