Netflix’s newest anime adaption of the popular graphic novel, Scott Pilgrim, is about to “take off” this upcoming November, with the live-action cast returning for another performance.
Scott Pilgrim Takes Off, is Netflix’s latest anime series produced by Japanese studio Science Saru, the same studio who produces Keep Your Hands Off Eizouken. Fans of the graphic novel are overjoyed to see the latest adaptation with its amazing visuals and coloration that perfectly matches the artstyle of the graphic novel by Bryan Lee O’ Malley.
The eight-episode series revisits the story of Scott Pilgrim, a bass player who becomes infatuated with new girl Ramona Flowers. However, in order to be with her, he has to defeat all of her seven evil exes.
This isn’t the first time the graphic novel has been adapted. The 2010 live action film, Scott Pilgrim vs. the World, was the first adaption of the series. While it wasn’t a box-office success, it has garnered a huge following and has turned into a cult classic.
The full cast of the live action film, including big named actors, Chris Evans and Brie Larson, have returned to reprise their roles in this upcoming anime. It’s a rare occurrence for fans to witness the entire cast of a film reuniting for a brand-new project after a hiatus of 13 years, but “Scott Pilgrim Takes Off” stands as a unique exception.
Netflix is actively exploring the creation of multiple anime and animated projects inspired by well-loved franchises. O’Malley has been revealed as the showrunner, writer, and executive producer with his longtime friend BenDavid Grabinski to bring these projects to life.
The latter added that there are going to be some big twists and turns that no other adaptations of the story have done yet, which gives fans some expectations of the series.
Scott Pilgrim Takes Off is available on Netflix on November 17, 2023.
