PAGASA: Northeast Monsoon affects Northern and Central Luzon, Easterlies affect the rest of the country

WEATHER UPDATE – According to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA), Northeast Monsoon affects Northern and Central Luzon, Easterlies affect the rest of the country.

WEATHER UPDATE TODAY – January 10, 2024

PAGASA reports that the Northeast Monsoon will affect Northern and Central Luzon, while the Easterlies will impact the remainder of the country. 

Cagayan Valley and Aurora will encounter cloudy skies with light rains caused by Northeast Monsoon with no expected significant impact. 

Ilocos Region, Cordillera Administrative Region, and the rest of Central Luzon will experience partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated light rains due to the Northeast Monsoon.These conditions are not expected to cause significant disruption.



Metro Manila and the rest of the country can anticipate partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms due to Easterlies or Localized Thunderstorms. Severe thunderstorms may lead to flash floods or landslides.

Based on PAGASA’s Wind and Coastal Water forecast:

  • Extreme Northern Luzon will experience moderate to strong northeast winds, causing moderate to rough coastal water conditions (1.2 to 3.7 meters).
  • The eastern sections of Southern Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao will experience moderate to strong east winds, leading to moderate to rough coastal waters (1.2 to 3.0 meters).
  • The rest of the country will encounter light to moderate east to northeast winds, causing slight to moderate coastal water conditions (0.6 to 2.5 meters).

The combination of the Northeast Monsoon and Easterlies leads to diverse weather conditions nationwide, including rain showers, thunderstorms, and cloudy skies. 

These weather patterns can cause sudden floods or landslides and affect coastal regions with different wind intensities.
