PAGASA: Tropical Storm “KABAYAN” is moving West Northwestward

WEATHER UPDATE – Tropical Storm “KABAYAN” is moving West Northwestward at 15 km/h while the Northeast Monsoon affects Northern and Central Luzon.

Weather Update Today – December 18, 2023

PAGASA’s weather update today (December 18, 2023) says at 3:00 AM, the center of Tropical Storm “KABAYAN” JELAWAT was estimated based on all available data at 195 km East of Davao City (7.3°N, 127.4°E) with maximum sustained winds of 65 km/h near the center and gustiness of up to 80 km/h. It is moving West Northwestward at 15 km/h. 

Caraga and Davao Oriental will encounter Stormy weather caused by Tropical Storm Kabayan. Possible flooding or landslides may occur due to moderate to heavy rains, minor to moderate threat to lives and properties due to strong winds.



Zamboanga Peninsula, Northern Mindanao, Central Visayas, rest of Davao Region, Leyte, Southern Leyte, Negros Occidental, Guimaras, Cotabato, and Maguindanao del Norte will also encounter Rains with Gusty winds caused by Tropical Storm Kabayan. Possible flooding or landslides may occur due to moderate to heavy rains, minimal to minor threat to lives and properties due to strong winds.

Bicol Region, the rest of Visayas, the rest of Mindanao, Palawan, Quezon, and Aurora will experience cloudy skies with scattered rain showers and thunderstorms caused by the Tropical Storm Kabayan / Shear Line. Possible flash floods or landslides may occur due moderate to at times heavy rains.

Cagayan Valley, Apayao, Kalinga, and Ilocos Norte will experience cloudy skies with rains caused by Northeast Monsoon. Possible flash floods or landslides may occur due moderate to at times heavy rains. 

Metro Manila and the rest of Luzon will experience partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated light rains caused by Northeast Monsoon with no significant impact.



According to PAGASA’s Wind and Coastal Water forecast, Extreme Northern Luzon has Strong wind speed directed to Northeast with Rough / (2.8 to 5.0 meters).

Visayas, the rest of Luzon, and the eastern section of Mindanao has Moderate to Strong wind speed directed to Northeast with Moderate to Rough / (1.2 to 5.0 meters).

The rest of Mindanao has Light to Moderate wind speed directed to Northeast facing North with Slight to Moderate / (0.6 to 2.5 meters) coastal waters. 



Under present weather conditions, Tropical Storm “KABAYAN” is moving West Northwestward, Northeast Monsoon affects Northern and Central Luzon, Shear Line affects the eastern section of Southern Luzon.
